The Week to End Enbridge: Supporting First Nations Legal Challenges

June 15, 2015

This week marks the one year anniversary of the federal government’s conditional approval of the Enbridge Northern Gateway tankers and pipeline project. Thankfully, Enbridge is no closer to putting shovels in the ground on this dangerous project and British Columbians from all walks of life are pulling together to keep it that way.

The Week to End Enbridge, June 13-21, is a chance for you to be a part of the groundswell of support for First Nations legal challenges to stop the Enbridge project. The week will feature events and gatherings and activities across the province.

Eat! Dance! Paddle! Find an event in your area and Pull Together with us this week.

Why is it more important than ever to stand in solidarity with First Nations opposing Enbridge?

For almost half a decade, the Yinka Dene Alliance has been in the forefront of opposition to the Enbridge project, and we’re continuing to step up the challenge. Now, the dates have been set and the court battle is on. On October 1-2 and 5-8, eight First Nations, four non-profits and Canada’s largest private sector union will take on the Enbridge project in court. Today please support Yinka Dene Alliance members Nadleh Whut’en and Nak’azdli and other First Nations who are preparing for these important legal challenges.

Share the Yinka Dene Alliance story on your networks to raise awareness of this crucial legal battle.

What to expect this week, June 13-21:

There will be a community dance in Prince George, a picnic in Terrace, a paddle in Victoria, and many more gatherings already planned all across the province, from Fort St John to Smithers to Vancouver. Uprising Breads Bakery in Vancouver donated 20% of their proceeds from the weekend of June 13-14, and The Soap Dispensary donated 10% of theirs. Every day, more communities, individuals and local businesses are coming on board.

Bring your family, your friends and your solidarity. Please join us next week so that together, we can continue to hold the wall against the Enbridge project. [ http://pull-together.ca/event/ ]

Sincerely,

Geraldine Thomas-Flurer
Yinka Dene Alliance Coordinator
